If you are going to visit Toronto, there is one unique place that you should not miss. Of course, I am not talking about Sandbanks, one of the most beautiful beaches in Ontario and located a 2hours drive from the city. Still, I must admit a bit by chance about another place that I am thrilled to have discovered.
A few minutes from the city center, there is a unique park where nature has reclaimed its rights with incredible flora and fauna. This park offers breathtaking views of the city of Toronto as well as Lake Ontario. In my opinion, one of the most beautiful places to discover in Toronto.
Follow me in the discovery of this urban and wild place in Toronto: Tommy Thompson Park.
A few words about Tommy Thompson Park
This human-made place made of bricks and industrial debris has become a green park that stretches over 250 hectares where you can find an abundance of wildlife. When you walk on the trails, you can choose between a walk on the Lake Ontario side or the city side.
An incredible flora and fauna
The abundance of wildflowers and birds makes it a perfect space for nature lovers. Indeed, the park is home to more than 400 species of wildflowers and nearly 300 species of birds and foxes, snakes, rabbits, turtles, etc. The various restoration works aim to develop, improve and protect the natural habitats of the species that have settled there.
What to do ?
In summer, there is no shortage of activities in the park. Between cycling, hiking, running or rollerblading. You are spoiled for choice. To each his mode of transport (except car and other motorized vehicles). You can also enjoy the beaches, but the water is freezing. Finally, be aware that in winter, it is possible to cross-country ski. Still, the trails are not maintained during this season.
